Anyone who has undergone long term exposure to asbestos is at risk for a number of health problems, including different types of cancer. An increasing number of people have been coming out to file lawsuits against certain companies that have kept asbestos in their building, causing sometimes fatal illnesses of those who are exposed. The fibers which are in asbestos can cause major irritation as well as inflammation, leading to a number of health problems that can become quite serious if they are not treated immediately. The main cause of cancer in these types of cases is abnormal changes in the structure of the cells in the body.

What makes asbestos so dangerous is the fact that most of the time people do not exhibit any symptoms until years after they have been exposed, sometimes as long as 50 years later. During that period of time cancer develops in the body and becomes extremely lethal. The cells have time to mutate and abnormal changes take place, leading to conditions that have proven to be fatal for some. Mesothelioma is one of the most common types of cancer and it is caused by asbestos exposure among other things; it attacks different parts of the body, including the lining of the abdomen as well as the heart and lungs. Anyone who believes they might have been exposed to asbestos for a significant period of time will want to get tested right away in order to determine which health problems they have if any.
