The exposure to asbestos can quickly lead to what is commonly known as asbestos cancer which is a very nasty form of cancer that affects the respiratory system and creates rapid degeneration of the lungs and arteriole pathways. The fibers in asbestos have microscopic hook like ends which cause the asbestos to get caught in the lungs if breathed in through an unprotected pathway. Used years ago but now illegal asbestos was a natural insulator commonly places in the ceilings of domestic and commercial buildings to hold in the heat and therefore reduce the electrical bills. This did work but it also reduced the lung capacity and general health of all the unfortunate people who were subjected to the fibers. Asbestosis, lung cancer (asbestos cancer) pleural disorders and other cancers were related to the inhalation of the asbestos over a short period of time.

The asbestos fibers get trapped in the lungs after being breathed in and can remain there for extended periods of time. The fibers cause severe scarring and can have an instant effect on the capability of that persons breathing. A carcinogen is another word for a substance that is known to cause cancers and asbestos is one such carcinogen. Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is most commonly associated with asbestos and is another well known asbestos cancer. This asbestos cancer is a condition that affects the abdomen and chest of the people who contract it.

Many workers who has supplied, installed or removed the asbestos have been diagnosed with asbestos cancer and other related asbestos problems. The original manufacturers of the product claim they did not know any better before they unleashed this deadly product into the world and many of them are now being sued for compensation from the infected and the infected peoples family members. The companies are losing the battle because they are deemed negligent and should have done extensive research into the use of the material. Asbestos cancer is a horrific disease that has been the demise of many millions of people over the last few decades. The safe removal and disposal of the material has become a high priority in many economically developed nations however there are still some third world countries that prefer to skimp on costs rather than keep their employees safe.

Symptoms of asbestos cancer are said to appear around 20 years or more after the initial exposure to the material. Some patients are lucky enough to not have any recognizable symptoms for up to 50 years or more from their first known contact however the work lucky is used loosely. Shortness of breath and chest pain is the more common symptoms while wheezing and coughing are also at the top of the list. Unfortunately these symptoms are common with other disease such as asthma so consult your doctor immediately if you suspect any signs of problems.
