Asbestos represents a group of minerals which are silicate compounds, such as bundles or fibers that contain silicon and oxygen atoms in their molecular structure. It has been said for quite some time now that overexposure to asbestos can lead to health hazards, such as cancer. Whether you are exposed to asbestos in your home, workplace or community, the risk of developing asbestos cancer is high. Unfortunately, asbestos cancer is responsible for the death of thousands of people every year. Even though it is a rare type of cancer, asbestos cancer is extremely dangerous.

Asbestos cancer is also known as mesothelioma. However, this association is somehow wrong, because asbestos cancer can be also linked to lung, colon, colorectal, rectal, laryngeal or throat cancer. Nevertheless, mesothelioma is the only type of cancer which is directly related to asbestos and caused by it. You are more likely to develop this type of asbestos cancer is you have inhaled or ingested large amounts of asbestos over the years, which can cause the formation of malignant tumors in the lining of the lungs or abdominal cavity. Regarding the other type of cancers related to asbestos cancer, exposure to asbestos may be just one of the many causes which trigger them, but not necessarily the main one. Researchers are still trying hard to figure out the extent to which asbestos can cause them. Recent studies point out to the association of asbestos cancer with gastrointestinal and colorectal cancers.

There are some factors which can determine whether asbestos exposure can lead to asbestos cancer. These are the dose, duration, size, shape, chemical makeup of asbestos fibers, sources of exposure, and individual risk factors, such as smoking or other lung diseases. However, diagnosing asbestos cancer can be quite difficult, considering that the symptoms may not develop for even decades after the exposure. The most common symptoms of the rare asbestos cancer are shortness of breath, persistent cough, blood in the fluid from the lungs, chest pain, loss of appetite, weight loss, swallowing difficulties, neck or face swelling, fatigue and anemia. Should you experience any of these symptoms, a visit to the doctor is advisable.

Anyone who has undergone long term exposure to asbestos is at risk for a number of health problems, including different types of cancer. An increasing number of people have been coming out to file lawsuits against certain companies that have kept asbestos in their building, causing sometimes fatal illnesses of those who are exposed. The fibers which are in asbestos can cause major irritation as well as inflammation, leading to a number of health problems that can become quite serious if they are not treated immediately. The main cause of cancer in these types of cases is abnormal changes in the structure of the cells in the body.

What makes asbestos so dangerous is the fact that most of the time people do not exhibit any symptoms until years after they have been exposed, sometimes as long as 50 years later. During that period of time cancer develops in the body and becomes extremely lethal. The cells have time to mutate and abnormal changes take place, leading to conditions that have proven to be fatal for some. Mesothelioma is one of the most common types of cancer and it is caused by asbestos exposure among other things; it attacks different parts of the body, including the lining of the abdomen as well as the heart and lungs. Anyone who believes they might have been exposed to asbestos for a significant period of time will want to get tested right away in order to determine which health problems they have if any.

Asbestos is a class of fibrous minerals. Exposure to these minerals has been proven to case various forms of cancer and it has been occurring over the course of this past century. The asbestos fibers will cause an irritation and inflammation of cells called the mesothelial cells. This damage causes irreversible damage which eventually causes a disruption in the function for normal cell division. This produced abnormal cellular changes which what leads to cancer. Asbestos also cause damage to DNA which causes cells to eventually mutate and become cancerous. The most common form of cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos is mesothelioma. This type of cancer will attack the lining of the lungs, heart, or abdomen. Every year, between 2,000 and 3,000 cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed in America.

The sympotoms of asbestos cancer don’t occur until 20-50 years after the first exposure to asbestos occurred. These symptoms are often difficult to diagnose and resemble that of the flu or a bad cold. These symptoms include a shortness of breath, chest pain, couching, fatigue, night sweats, fever, and weight loss. Most often, a patient will not be able to be diagnosed until the asbestos cancer has reached its later stages. This is due to the long time between exposure and sign of symptoms. Once the symptoms are present, the doctor may perform a diagnostic test including x-rays, CT, and MRI scans as well as a biopsy. These tests will reveal the stage of progression and help the doctor determine treatment plans. Treatment includes a wide range of options that depend on the needs of the patient. These treatments include radiation, chemotherapy, surgery, and experimental treatments.

Anyone with the following asbestos cancer symptoms should make an appointment with their family doctor immediately. The Environmental Protection Agency also known as EPA is the regulator of asbestos in the water we drink, buildings, and the environment on a whole. Symptoms to be on the watch for include:

1. Constantly wheezing, hoarseness or feeling short of breath.

2. A worsening, relentless cough.

3. Finding blood in the the fluid or sputum being coughed up from the lungs.

4. Chest pains and tightness.

5. Finding it difficult to swallow.

6. Discovery of face or neck swelling.

7. Your appetite plunges.

8. Losing weight.

9. Constantly feeling tired or anemic.

If you have been exposed to asbestos, diseases that can stem from this exposure may not show up for years, decades even. Asbestos fibers may be present at your workplace, through the environment, or even in your home. Here’s something else you should be aware of: Anytime a product containing asbestos is aggravated, small asbestos fibers are discharged into the air. If you breathe in, there’s the possibility they may get trapped in the lungs. Unfortunately they can remain there for a long, long time, undetected.

As time passes, these trapped fibers can pile up and cause your lungs to become inflamed and scarred. In the end, this affects your breathing and eventually creates life threatening health problems. If you suspect you are experience asbestos cancer symptoms, your doctor will recommend a thorough physical examination. He or she will order chest x-ray’s which is the most often used tool for early detection of asbestos-related illnesses. Get yourself tested immediately if you fee as though you are experiencing asbestos cancer symptoms. Let optimal health be your number one priority.

There are only about 2000 to 3000 cases of mesothelioma diagnosed in the U.S. every year. It makes up only 3% off all the cancers that are diagnosed. Men are four times more likely to develop mesothelioma than women. The types of malignant mesothelioma in order of incidence are pleural, peritoneal, pericardial, and testicular. The three most common types will be discussed here.

The most common type of mesothelioma is pleural mesothelioma, where the cancer develops in the membrane lining the lungs called the pleura. There is also peritoneal mesothelioma, cancer that develops on the lining of the abdominal cavity. And there is pericardial mesothelioma, cancer that develops on the pericardium, the membrane that surrounds the heart.

Symptoms of pleural mesothelioma are a dry or raspy cough that does not go away. An individual may cough up blood and find it difficult to swallow. Night sweats and fevers are a sign of mesothelioma. If someone loses 10% or more of their weight for no obvious reason, mesothelioma is one possible explanation. People who have mesothelioma are often fatigues, their chest and ribs hurt making breathing painful, and they may be short of breath even when they are not exerting themselves. Lumps may appear under the skin of the chest.

With peritoneal mesothelioma, night sweats and fevers, fatigue, unexplained weight loss can occur in as with pleural mesothelioma. Abdominal pain and swelling, anemia, diarrhea or constipation, nausea or vomiting, and subcutaneous lumps are all signs of peritoneal mesothelioma.

Pericardial mesothelioma can manifest as heart palpitation and arrhythmias. Like pleural mesothelioma, difficulty breathing even when not exerting oneself can be observed. And like pleural and peritoneal mesothelioma, fatigue, fever, and night sweats are symptoms of pericardial mesothelioma as well.

Asbestos cancer otherwise known as Mesothelioma is a cancer caused by a fiberous mineral of impure magnesium silicate. It is has been typically used for fireproofing, electrical insulations and other building materials as well as chemical filters. The Asbestos cancer is caused by inhaling these fibers which get lodged in the lining of the lungs causing the growth of scar tissue and eventually cancer. Asbestos doesn’t dissolve or ever leave the body.

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that is not man made which a lot of people have this misconception of it. It has been used over the last 50 years or so to insulate and protect because it is heat resistant and the fibers can be woven and spun together for use in electrical and other insulations. It has low electrical conductivity, and it is very flexible and is actually quite strong.

Many countries have outlawed the mining of asbestos due to its cancer causing properties. People who have been exposed to lethal amounts of asbestos will develop lung cancer from it. The likelihood is that we have all been exposed to asbestos at some point in our lives. However, we are not as at risk for developing lung cancer as others who have had an over abundance of exposure such as the asbestos miners, electricians, as well as roofers.

There is an estimated 3000 products that have asbestos in it. As long as the mineral is intact there is no harm however should any of these products become damaged, the asbestos then becomes airborne and this is what causes the great concern. There are millions of buildings around the world that contain asbestos, that is why when a building is being demolished arrangements must be made to have the building disposed of in a designated asbestos landfill.

With the threat of asbestos fibers and the cancers that they can cause, many people are becoming increasingly worried that they may have had fatal exposure to asbestos. Most of us have been exposed to asbestos at some point in our lives. Because it’s in the air we breathe and the water we drink, it’s almost impossible to avoid. But most people are not exposed to it enough for it to become a risk or cause any harm. However, those who work in environments where asbestos is present, or those that work with asbestos directly, are very much more at risk. If you’re such a person, or someone who is worried that they may have suffered from overexposure to asbestos, here are some early symptoms of asbestos cancer that you can look for.

Because asbestos fibers get into the lungs, it’s mostly lung symptoms that will show up if someone has been overexposed. These symptoms include things such as shortness of breath, wheezing, hoarseness, or a cough that lasts for several weeks. If there is any blood found in the mucus after coughing, this could also mean that asbestos cancer is present. Feeling a pain or tightening of the chest is also common with asbestos cancer and a swelling in the face or neck might also be present. Also, common signs of illness such as fatigue, weight loss, or loss of appetite might also be seen with asbestos cancer.

It’s very important for anyone experiencing these symptoms to tell their doctor about it right away. Asbestos cancer can be treated if found early enough and many times all that’s needed for diagnosis is a chest x-ray.

There are still reported cases of asbestos cancer showing up all around the world today because even though most countries are doing all they can to reduce the asbestos in factories and buildings the product has been around for too long not to have effected many people. The slightest contact with this product can cause inflammation of the lungs and lead to cancer because of the nature of the fibers that the asbestos is made of. The human lungs are designed to remove waste from inside then by pushing the rubbish op and out however because the asbestos particles have hooks I them they stick to the inside of the lungs and stay there permanently.

Because cancers are often slow to develop the asbestos cancer has been known to take up to fifty years to present itself in patients. Shortness of breath and coughing are the first signs of this infliction however these symptoms are also those of many other lung problems. People that have been in direct contact with the fibers showed signs of the cancer around ten years after they were exposed. This is usually people that have had something to do with the instilation or removal of the product to and from places of residence or business.

Asbestos exposure can be the cause of cancer to many patients that have confirmed cases of asbestos cancer. This cancer does not come around without the prolonged exposure to asbestos which was once a common household means of insulation homes and businesses. However because of the lack of long term research on the product the cause of thousands of deaths and thousands more to come has really made a potentially useful product into a real deadly problem.

Asbestos was originally designed and mass manufactured in the United States however this was then shipped around the world to places like Australia, New Zealand, Africa and South America as a cheap means of insulation. Where the company went wring was to deny for the first few years the fact that the material was causing so many problems. Asbestos is a dangerous product that if inhaled will stick to your lungs and not be forced out like the rest of the rubbish that is breathed in. The adhesion of these fibers causes the cancer to be formed and leads to an early death in the patient that has to suffer from this horrible disease.

Asbestos fibers that are inhaled cannot be removed from the lungs and will eventually lead to complications in breathing. There are also diseases that are directly related to the contact you have had with this mineral compound which are not directly related to lung problems. The fibers may get caught in abdomen or the lining of the heart known as the pericardium.
